From only 25-year-old vines but (like nearly all of Roblet's)
selection massale rather than clones, the 2005 Volnay Les
Brouilliards certainly seems to betray its borderline Pommardian
origins in a nose that mingles chaired meat, fresh blood, and
dusty mineral nuances. Not that this wine lacks for fruit, but
it is a faintly bitter, tart black fruit character laminated
to the meat and mineral substrate that lends the wine its
extract-rich, dense palate presence and constitutes its essence.
It finishes with a rather somber, dark, but impressiyely deep
and strikingly camaland mineratlength.
