Slightly more concentrated but also more noticeably tannic is
the dark plum/ruby-colored 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape. Peppery,
black currant, sweet cherry, herb, and meaty notes jump from
the glass of this dense, medium to full-bodied wine that needs
shed some tannic before reaching its plateau of maturity. Give
it 1-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the next 12-14.
